There is something hauntingly beautiful about the remains of Brighton’s West Pier - a skeletal silhouette on the horizon, worn by salt, storms, and time. Though neglected and slowly falling into the sea, its presence is still striking - a reminder of days gone by, and of the impermanence of all things. Nothing stays the same; what was once vibrant and full of life inevitably changes.

In this, the pier mirrors our own lives. We all carry structures that once defined us - roles, relationships, ways of being, beliefs we held about ourselves and the world, that eventually break down, sometimes gradually, sometimes all at once. These changes can feel disorienting, even painful. But like the pier, the parts of ourselves that feel broken or eroded are not without meaning or beauty. They are part of our story.

There can be grace in the ruins. And in learning to face them, we find our way forward.
